Crete, the island where the first European civilization flourished more than 4000 years ago.

Renowned throughout the world for its stunning natural beauty, fascinating cultural heritage sites and friendly people Crete is also considered to be home to some of the highest quality produce in Greece.

As with all Greek Kitchen Getaways this trip begins in Athens where you'll start your culinary adventure with a cooking class and food tour and a chance to visit the world-famous Acropolis, see the fine collections at the National Archaeological Museum and enjoy a night out in the city that really never sleeps.

Crete awaits and after a comfortable night in a cabin on board the ferry you'll arrive with the rising sun and the next chapter of your adventure.

While in Crete we make sure that you try the unique dishes from dakos, Cretan rusk topped with local tomatoes, herbs and soft Mizithra cheese to raki, the potent local firewater that comes after every meal.

The Cretan diet is healthy and the air is fresh and what better way to experience that than to head to the south of the island and explore one of the gorges - we give you the option of the famous Samaria Gorge at almost 19km long or the easier Agia Irini.

The Athens to Crete Adventure is the perfect combination of activities and free time and is a great trip for anyone interested in learning more about Greek culture while also wanting to spend some time at the beach - and the beaches in Crete are beautiful...

Greek Kitchen Getaways work with communities and small businesses. We have found ways to bring you into excellent local experiences making sure that revenue stays local and goes to the people it should.
