Everything you need to know about us!

Who are we?

The team at The Greek Kitchen are a group of friends with a shared passion for all things Greek and edible.

Growing up in Greece with relatives who've taught us how to behave in the kitchen since we were very young and shown us the recipes that have been in our families for years

Over time we have worked in professional kitchens or cooked daily for our families and now, for the past three years we have worked together to share our love of Greek food with you.

Online Cooking Classes

The world is changing rapidly at the moment and now more and more people are looking for alternative ways to spend their free time as travel becomes more difficult.

Our online classes have been created with people who are new to Greek cooking in mind, we've also chosen dishes that are easily adaptable to many dietary requirements and use ingredients that are easy to get hold of in most countries.

All of our classes are in English and use the metric system for measurements so it will be your responsibility to adjust your amounts if you are using the imperial system.

The class times as stated on the booking pages are local to Greece (GMT+3) so make sure that you know what time your class begins where you live!

The charge for the class is made per screen, after all, we can't tell you how many people are allowed in your kitchen! We do limit the amount of screens per class to 10 and we do ask that if you do have friends over while you cook to be respectful of the other participant's experience.

In order to join an online cooking class it must be paid for in advance. Once you've paid you will receive a message with your Zoom invitation and the ingredients and equipment list. We suggest having a pen and notepad handy to write down the recipe on. Alternatively you can record the class on Zoom and watch it back at your leisure.

As said, we use Zoom for our online classes and you will need the app on your device. You can download it here:

While you can join the class on any smart device that you can connect Zoom to we do believe that your experience will be more fun and easy to follow if you use a laptop or a tablet to view on.

For every screen that's booked for an online cooking class you will receive a voucher worth €25 valid for up to 3 years for use in Athens on an experience with The Greek Kitchen. This voucher can be transferred to a friend for free for them to use on an experience if they are coming to Greece.

Cooking Classes In Athens

Athens is the centre of the world of Greek produce and it is something to celebrate!

Our hands-on cooking experiences have been created to ensure that everyone who takes part, no matter their cooking skill level, is able to learn something and to have a a good time.

We welcome people with dietary requirements and ask that you contact us at least 48 hours before the class start time to let us know of any so that the appropriate ingredients can be arranged.

All of our cooking classes begin with a 30 minutes trip to the local produce market with the cook to collect the ingredients for the meal. Here you'll get to meet some of the local traders and see the wide range of produce that we are lucky to have access to here in Greece: There is a section for meat and fish/seafood which is very "real", nothing is slaughtered here but it can be overwhelming for some people and we respect that. Let your host know that you'd rather not enter this section and they will return for after that section has been explored by the rest of the group.

Please dress appropriately for the weather for the market visit; it can get very hot so bring a hat, water and even put some sunscreen on before you head out. We also recommend bringing a refillable water bottle with you to stay hydrated.

Wear closed-toed shoes and absolutely no flip-flops or loose sandals are to be worn during the trip to the market or during the cooking class.

It is important to arrive just before the start time of your booking as the host will leave for the market on time. If you are late please call us to let us know and we will try to help you join the group.

Group Experiences with The Greek Kitchen

We have had a lot of success working with many international companies, schools, colleges and universities over the past years and are pleased to be able to offer high quality experiences to Athens visitors to really make their time here special.

While we are good at what we do, we aren't capable of doing everything so when we plan and create special activities for groups we always work with local, professional outside sources who have all the qualifications and licensing needed to make your event the absolute best that it can be. This ranges from licensed guides and transport companies to venues that are appropriate for the activity involved.

All of our group activities and experiences are insured and have your comfort, security and safety in mind at all times.

Private Experiences with The Greek Kitchen

Sometimes the situation calls for a private, more personal event for you and your family and friends. At The Greek Kitchen we have been working with private clients for many years to assist in perfecting their time here in Greece. This could be from a private dining or tasting experience at a specified location or a cooking class with a well known and respected chef in the kitchen of a top hotel.

When arranging private experiences we work with our collection of outside sources; including licensed guides, drivers and certified chefs. We ensure that all legalities are taken care of and that insurance has been made to guarantee the safety of the client and the service provider at all times.

Covid 19 and The Greek Kitchen Cooking Class In Athens

The pandemic events of 2020 have effected the entire world and we are all having to make changes to the way that we live, travel and run our businesses.

Here in Greece we have been incredibly fortunate to have had a government that responded quickly and a cooperative population who took the situation seriously, due to this the rate of infections and deaths related to the Corunavirus have been one of the lowest in the world.

All suppliers that we work with meet the highest regulations when it comes to the current situation so you can be assured that whatever we arrange for you, you will be safe.

We kindly ask all of our clients to respect the team at The Greek Kitchen and follow the guidelines to maintain a healthy and safe working environment.
